Opportunity

Norman doors--doors that don't clearly express whether they should be pushed or pulled--are everywhere. This leads to confusion and sometimes embarrassment.

Goal

Make a product that facetiously solves this problem, which plagues beautiful, yet unintuitive door design.

My Role:

Prototype, design and develop. Team member: Jingting He. Voice: Michael Kenney

Prototype

Result

DIY door hanger made for use on beautifully designed doors that don’t clearly express if they need to be pulled or pushed. The electronics are left exposed as a form of facetious critique to the design of unintuitive, beautiful doors that don't acknowledge their counter-intuitiveness.

How it Works

It uses a toggle switch as an input and sonar sensor in the middle which triggers a voice recording that informs the confused user to pull or push as they come within 90 cm of the door.

Make one at home. Bring it with you. When you encounter a door that frustrates you, tag it with a Pushme/Pullme.
