Emotional Extract

an immersive, tactile experience designed to improve the workplace environment for people who suffer from emotional disorders.

The Problem

The modern office space is becoming more dynamic and innovative. But our role in its routine still means that our exposure to earth's natural elements are stifled.

Research

Tryptophan, an essential amino acid, which humans do not produce naturally and so must absorb through their diet, is found in mycobacterium vaccae, the lifeblood of soil. Humans produce serotonin as a by-product of the body's intestinal absorption of tryptophan. Serotonin regulates the secretion of digestive juices and helps to control the passage of food through the gut. This affects one's anxiety level and mood positively.

How it Works

Step inside to read, write or relax, while sinking your feet into the soil.

By introducing soil into the office routine, Emotional Extract aims to improve its user's mood and ability to spend extended periods of time in an environment in which our bodies have not evolved to withstand. This has a positive affect on those who are at a disadvantage to others in the work place because of emotional disorders.
